Family name List
I delved into my ancestry through an iGENEA DNA test, traversing millennia and uncovering the profound story behind my surname, List. To my astonishment, the test revealed its Germanic origins, ancient migratory patterns, shared paternal DNA across a spectrum of Western European nations, and much more.
I have recently completed a DNA test from iGENEA and the findings have truly been revelatory. The exploratory journey into my ancestry via the paternal lineage test intensified my self-awareness, and it gave me a better understanding of my surname, List.
The Y-chromosome DNA test, known as a Paternal Lineage Test, was instrumental in helping me trace my direct paternal ancestry. iGENEA’s analysis of my DNA revealed that the surname List carries predominantly Western European ancestry, with deep roots traced back to ancient Germanic tribes.
An exciting finding was that my surname, List, directly corresponds with the haplogroup E-M215, also known as E1b1b, relatively common among Germans which suggests the surname is likely of Germanic origin. This haplogroup is believed to have originated in North Africa or the Near East and made its way into Europe through various migration routes over thousands of years.
Additionally, the test revealed that I share my paternal DNA with various individuals with the same surname List across a spectrum of Western European nations, suggesting a common patriarchal ancestor who must have been of notable influence in the Germanic tribal community in the medieval times.
In terms of medical traits, I learned that the specific genetic markers that I carry suggest a higher tolerance to cold climates and a predisposition to high risks of developing lactose intolerance - traits that indeed ring true with me.
Furthermore, the cultures and traditional practices associated with the List family reflect the resilience and hardiness of the Germanic peoples, their affinity with nature and a strong commitment to family ties.
The IGENEA DNA test has immensely enriched my understanding of my ancestry and lineage. Having discovered and embraced the fascinating origins and history associated with my surname, List, has made me feel more connected to my past, strengthening a sense of identity and reinforcing a profound respect for my forebears.
