From Diener to my DNA: How iGENEA shed light on my rich and varied heritage

Family name Diener

For someone with an already inherent interest in understanding their ancestry and heritage, undertaking an iGENEA DNA test seemed an obvious route to discovery. The surname Diener, German for 'Servant', held immense weight and resonance for me. The DNA test brought forth astounding revelations about my lineage, forever changing how I perceived my identity.

From the onset, I had been interested in discovering more about my ancestry, more so as Diener which, in German, translates to 'Servant'. The concept of being a 'servant to society' felt humbling, and it resonated deeply within me. To honor my surname and all it entails, I decided to participate in an iGENEA DNA test in the hopes of gaining some insight into my lineage and, in turn, a bit of my own identity.

The revelations the test provided were incredible, unearthing ancient truths about my bloodline. The surprises started to unfold as I learnt about a large part of me rooted deep in Ancient Greek. This revelation brought forth feelings of pride knowing my ancestors were part of a civilization known for creativity, philosophical thoughts, and scholars that changed the world.

Not only did the inherent valor and spirit of the Greeks inspire me, but I also found I had part of my genetic makeup stemming from Scandinavian Vikings - a people known for their undying determination, courage, and adventures. Finding this connection to these brave voyagers instilled in me a drive to surge forward fearlessly, much like my forefathers.

More astonishing was a considerable percentage of my heritage traced to some regions in East Africa. This part of my DNA fabric triggered an awakening within me, understanding the raw perseverance of human life - the unyielding desire to survive despite adversities. This notion evoked a newfound respect for my predecessors and a serene sense of belonging.

The iGENEA DNA test illuminated diverse parts of my past. The knowledge stirred within me notions of bravery, wisdom, and resilience, deeply intertwined with my DNA and the essence of who I am - a Diener and a servant to society.

This insight has revealed to me a profound understanding of my heritage, impacting my outlook on my life. I now see myself as an individual woven into this multicultural tapestry of human history, one connected to the past through unique bloodlines and rooted in promises of the future. This has reshaped the way I see my surname Diener - I do not just exist as a servant in society but also as the custodian of my rich and varied heritage.
